- - 2nd Ranger Battalion are the first soldiers to storm
Omaha Beach.
- - Point da Hoc – Rangers are commanded to take out five 550mm cannons
in a heavily armored bunker on top of a 100 foot cliff. The Rangers
were instructed to scale the cliff using rope ladders, while carrying
30lb rifles. When the Rangers reached the top, they encountered an
already destroyed bunker containing no cannons. The cannons had been
relocated; they were eventually found and destroyed. By taking out
these powerful weapons, the Army Rangers saved countless American
lives.
